     Can I sell food items and / or beverages at the sale?

Selling food is regulated by Washington County and the State of Minnesota.  The type of food sold determines if a Special Event Food Stand License is required.  

NO LICENSE IS REQUIRED. Prepackaged bottled water and prepackaged non-potentially hazardous food items (bags of chips, individual candy packages, candy bars, canned soda).

SPECIAL EVENT FOOD STAND LICENSE IS REQUIRED.  Potentially hazardous that may support bacterial growth, open foods, food that requires refrigeration/hot holding, or food that is being repackaged (sandwiches, smoothies, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, etc.).

    Who comes to buy at the garage sale and where do they come from?

2015 will be our 38th annual community garage sale. Over that time, word of this event has literally travelled across the country. We estimate that we now have more than 5,000 shoppers converge on our community. While the majority of shoppers come from the Twin Cities metropolitan area, we have many shoppers from outstate Minnesota, as well as Wisconsin, Iowa, and North & South Dakota and beyond. We have groups that arrive in tour buses.  Many shoppers have been coming for years.

    What kinds of things can I sell at my garage sale?

In the past, sellers have sold clothing, furniture, sporting equipment, tools, kitchenware, dishes, electronics and other household goods.  You, as the individual seller, are responsible for the condition and legality of any items you sell (see our helpful hints).

    What are the registration dates and deadlines?

The registration dates are
mid-Feb to midnight April 30th

for both online registration and traditional paper registration.

    What does it cost to register for the Garage Sale?

The registration cost for 2017 is $30, the equivalent of running a garage sale ad in the twin cities papers. This includes a listing in our garage sale directory, lawn sign, advertising of the sale through newspapers and the web.  Our tradition of 40 years brings many thousands of shoppers to our community and directly to your sale.

    Why should I pay to register?

The community nature of this event draws huge crowds of eager shoppers, many of whom plan vacations around the event and travel from neighboring states. All proceeds from registration benefit the community through purchasing eyeglasses and hearing aids for those in our community, scholarships for Woodbury students and many other programs. We ask you to support your neighbors and the rest of the community by either registering your sale or by choosing another weekend to have your sale. The cost of registering your sale is far less than it would be if you had to provide a sign and advertise your own individual event and you would likely only see one tenth of the people. Support the community you live in and register your event.

    Can I sign up to be a part of the garage sale even though the cut off  date to be included in the directory has passed?

Yes.  If registration is closed, please contact us at garagesale@woodburylions.org. With your paid registration the Lion’s will ensure your participation by delivering a yard sign to you.

    How do shoppers know what I am selling ?

The Woodbury Lions publishes a Garage Sale Directory for this community event. Each listing has a brief description of the items for sale (up to 250 characters)

    How do shoppers find my sale location?

The Woodbury Lions Garage Sale Directory contains a listing for each of the more than 600 garage sales and is organized neighborhood. Each listing has the street address and neighborhood map locator information. The map locator information is keyed to the appropriate neighborhood map also in the directory.

    Are city maps available?

Our garage sale directory contains neighborhood maps as well as the locations and descriptions of items for the hundreds of registered garage sales. The sales in the directory are organized by neighborhood and are keyed to their appropriate neighborhood map.

    Where can I buy the garage sale directory?

Directories listing the Garage Sale locations and merchandise may be purchased at the following locations:

The cost for the 2017 directory is $5.00 for either the paper copy or the electronic copy

    Can I get an electronic copy (PDF, DOC, Etc)?

Signs and Signage 

    When do I get my Garage Sale yard sign?

The official start day of the Woodbury Lions Community Garage Sale is Thursday May 11th.  Members of the Woodbury Lions begin delivering the signs Wednesday afternoon May 10th.

    When can I put the Garage Sale yard sign out?

Members of the Woodbury Lions begin delivering the signs Wednesday afternoon May 10th.  Since they are delivered by neighborhood, you can put your sign out as soon as you get it.

    Where can I place the Garage Sale yard sign?

The city of Woodbury has ordinances in place related to temporary signage.  In accordance with the ordinance, the Lion’s provide you with the sign that can go in your front yard.  Also, in accordance with the ordinance, you are allowed three other signs providing direction to your sale.  Keep in mind, that you, by registering your sale, have given the Lions permission to use one of those three signs to direct people to where to buy directories.     Can I keep the garage sale sign to use in the future?

These signs are made for one time use.  They are fully recyclable.  We ask that you recycle the metal frame and the plastic sign.
